Dr. Sorrel is a native of New Iberia, Louisiana.  He graduated from New Iberia Senior High School as valedictorian and attended Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge. While in college, Dr. Sorrel spent his breaks working on production platforms offshore with his father.  He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Biological Sciences from LSU and then went on to get his medical degree from LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans.  In medical school, Dr. Sorrel held various service and leadership positions including: president of the pediatrics interest group, vice president of the SMILE program for the care of sick children, and youth leader at the Ring Community Church. Dr. Sorrel has also served the community as participant and organizer of multiple medical missions and hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

 

Dr. Sorrel completed his five-year residency training at the University of Texas at Houston Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery department. At UT, Dr. Sorrel trained under internationally known physicians, including spending six months training at the world renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Sorrel’s academic endeavors include research on treatment of chronic sinusitis, for which he received a grant from the American Rhinological Society. He has also researched and written about minimally invasive skull base surgery, alternative medicine in Otolaryngology and sinonasal malignancy. He has done additional training by attending multiple courses in the fields of facial trauma surgery, rhinologic surgery, head and neck cancer, otology, and allergy.

 

While in Houston, Dr. Sorrel met his wife Dr. April Danielle Sorrel who has completed her residency in pediatrics at UT-Houston. Also, while in residency Dr. Sorrel became very involved in and intrigued by wellness and fitness. He held a part time position as a fitness coach at Crossfit H-town and one of his favorite hobbies now is participating in fitness competitions.

 

Dr. Nicholas Sorrel is available to treat the entire realm of Otolaryngology, including allergy and sinus disease, thyroid and parathyroid disease, head and neck malignancy, disorders of the larynx, pediatric otolaryngology, facial cosmetics, chronic ear disease and hearing loss.

 

Dr Sorrell is one of Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospital’s Physician Owners.

 

Dr. Sorrel’s particular interests include:

  • Comprehensive medical and surgical management of sinus disease
  • Thyroid and parathyroid gland surgery
  • Management of benign and malignant tumors of the salivary glands
  • Management of head and neck cancer including transoral laser microsurgery and robotic techniques
  • Surgical and medical treatment of hearing loss and chronic ear disease
